Medieval Manor
Not that far off from Cybertech City, there stands a large, empty, medieval mansion. People say they can hear strange noises coming from it during the night, and during the day the sun won't shine there. No one goes near the Manor, there are terrible stories about what happens if you set foot even inside the fence line.

Surely only supernatural activities could have stopped it from being torn down after all these years.

Now here's a strange event for ya
Galain tumbled out of his portal, rolled a few feet and immediately entangled himself within a huge overgrown rosebush.

"Ow! Gods! Ow!" He cursed as he frantically tried to extricate himself, scratching and cutting himself on the thick brambles and murderous thorns. When he was finally free he sat up, snapped the portal shut and looked up at the structure the roses abutted against.

Now that was a spooky kinda place, the elf mused. He got to his feet and turned around a few times, noticing the lights of a city not far off in the distance.

Oh good. Civilization.

Introducing Cate
The noise of Galain's landing startled Cate, concealed behind another rosebush. She jumped up in frustration and swore with all her voice. "What were you thinking! How'd you even get here, anyway? Oh, nevermind," she finished irritably. Her hands shook badly, so she did her best to hide the wiring she held into a trenchcoat pocket. In a sad imitation of casualness, she ran a trembling hand over her cropped, purple-coloured hair.

This one sure dressed crazy. Maybe he was an eccentric. A rich eccentric. That would explain why he was in this area. "I'm Cate," she said abruptly and with a curt nod to Galain. "You new around here? I could show you around, maybe help you find some good eating." She didn't add that she could use a free meal.

Did somebody mention food???
Sarina popped her head up out of the bushes like some kind of crazed jackinthebox. It had been hours since she last saw food. She had just meant to take a short walk around the block, but one thing led to another, then another and here she was. Only she didn't quite know where "here" was. Sarina didn't have much of a sense of direction, you see. She had a map, but couldn't read it; had a compass, but didn't know how to hold it.

She smiled weakly, aware that the other two were staring at her. "um, er, hello..."

Thinking?
Galain muffled a gasp as first a purple-haired woman appeared and then a crazed-looking one appeared. Both had been in the bushes and the elf peered at the shrubbery with no small amount of suspicion. What else might be lurking in them thar things?

He felt himself being scrutinized and he returned the favor, staring Cate over rather thoroughly. When he finally answered, it was to both women.

“I’m new, yeah. I just sort of popped in. It’s a talent I have. Show me around?” He directed that last to Cate, not Sarina whom he was staring at rather intently. He caught Cate’s look again and looked down at himself.

“What? Am I overdressed? Underdressed? Improperly dressed?” He could change. Really. His eyes strayed to Cate’s hands and he wondered what she was trying to hide.

Cate
At Sarina's arrival, Cate muffled a groan. She'd have to be nice to both of them now, to keep up appearances. Life was all about keeping up appearances.

Cate glanced over Galain's clothing when he mentioned it. "I'd say you could stand a trenchcoat over it all, but then that is my own style, too." She nodded to him and pulled her own oversized trench off her shoulders, then froze, wide-eyed.

The wires. The wires in the pocket. Mustn't lose the wires. She needed those wires.

She affected to be adjusting her clothing out of discomfort, but Cate was sure it hadn't convinced anyone. Damn. She shoved her hands in the coat pockets and repeatedly kneaded the wiring, to remind herself that she had that commodity so important to her.

What'cha lookin' at??
The elf was staring at her and it was making Sarina nervous. There was a part of her splintered thought processes that was shouting "take it off" to the elf as he sputtered about his clothes. Luckily for Sarina, that part of her brain wasn't the part that was currently in control of her vocal abilities. She clapped a hand over her mouth and grinned weakly at the tall elf with the fashion dilemma. She turned her attention to the purple-haired woman in the trench coat. Cocking her head to the side, she watched the woman fiddling with her clothes. She seemed to be trying to hide something, but Sarina couldn't be sure.

Take it off, cover it up...
“Okay. Show me where to find a trench coat and food and I promise not to ask why you’re freaking out over whatever you’re trying to hide,” Galain said. He nodded toward Sarina. “I’ll pay for her food too. Just show me around so I don’t get lost.” He could have left, but he was too interested by the odd little interaction going on here.

Cate
Cate rubbed the back of her neck as she thought. "This new dye sure roughs up my skin," she said in explanation.

Neatly palming her precious wires, she shrugged out of her coat and handed it to Galain. The gesture almost concealed Cate's shaking fist. "It's a man's coat anyway, and a little long for me."

Without waiting for the elf to comment, she added, "If you're not picky, there's a place a few blocks from here." Although she didn't say it aloud, Cate's darting eyes suggested this establishment to be less than opulent.

Just lead the way....
Sarina watched the one with the purple hair hand over her trench coat. She seemed very uneasy about something, to be sure, but Sarina was too hungry to give the other woman much thought. She smiled reasuringly at Cate and murmured "I'm sure it can't be that bad".

Whether she was talking about the place they were being taken to eat or the reason for the woman's nervousness, Sarina wasn't sure.

Well boy howdy
Galain blinked when the woman handed over the coat. He took it and tried it on... not a bad fit. He eyed her again.

"I'm Galain. What's this place? And by all means, lead the way," he said at last as he automatically stuffed his hands in the coat's pockets and felt within.

Habit.

Something about the other woman
made Sarina nervous. Something just wasn't right. She found herself holding her breath as Galain took the coat, as if she thought it were going to come to life and attack the elf or something. Realizing she was being silly, she tried to cover for herself by babbling endlessly as they walked, asking questions and commenting on the slightest oddity she saw, like a hyperactive 5 year old. Her eyes darted back and forth between the one with the purple hair and the elf as she talked, trying all the while to put her finger on the uncomfortable feeling she was experiencing.

Galain looked at her oddly a few times as she yammered on and on. Sarina was quite certain that she was being truly annoying, but she just couldn't help it. Try as she might, she couldn't stem the flow of incessant verbage.

Wow
He'd not found anything in the pockets aside from the usual pocket lint and a few odd wires. Oh, and a coin of some sort. He pulled everything out, watching a gum wrapper wisp away into the wind as Sarina talked on and on and on and on...

Gods, that woman could talk. She was the total opposite of the other one who remained utterly silent.

What the hell had he gotten himself into?

Oh boy. . .
Shyne muttered to herself as she stumbled through the dark toward the voices. She was close, Sallah chirped encouragingly and flew ahead. Nearing the voices, Shyne could make out the forms of three people, and Sallah flying overhead.

Tired and hungry, Shyne glared up at her golden friend and walked carefully up to the group. "Hello, is there room for two more?" She asked as Sallah landed on her shoulder, eyes whirling a calm green.
